12: Knee Deep in Revisions

I’ve reached a point in my calendar year where I now have three projects I’m juggling. “Jamie” is the revision round ball, perfectly suited for my hobby. “Blend Kids” is a newby, one that lives in my brain rent-free. I’ll call that the spiked ball. The last ball is the end of year project that I absolutely must start now; otherwise, I’m sunk. That’s more like a bowling ball.

Perhaps it’s my attention-altering “talents.” Maybe it’s my years of experiencd juggling multiple centers, plans, tasks, etc as a teacher. Or maybe I’m just delusional. In any event, I feel comfortable keeping at least two of those balls in the air. Adios, spiky ball.

I’m fascinated to hear from fellow writers about this idea: how many projects are you working on? In my writing group, it seems as if most of them are all-in on one project. When I listen to writing podcasts, I get the feeling that published and career authors juggle many balls at once. It’s the industry that forces this. Here’s my thought: authors are often pigeon-holed, so their works-in-progress probably have similarities that help ideas stay afloat and organized in the quicksand of the mind. I can’t imagine writing a vampire-romcom and a sci-fi horror at the same time. Kudos to you if that’s your cross.

I worked on revisions on my “Jamie” project today. I did not deal with my EOY story. That’s a tomorrow event. I have spring break coming up on April 4th. I will be grinding that week.
